My Introduction to Competitive Bass Fishing
By Beau McQuade
When I was 3 or 4 years old Pap (my Grandpa) took me out in his boat and I loved it.
One Christmas Pap got me a rod and reel. I was so surprised and Dad wanted it. Pap also gave me an old tacklebox and I would play for hours putting tackle in and taking tackle out of it.
One year I got to go to Uncle Zach’s fishing banquet and got to see all the trophies given out. Uncle Zach got a rod and reel because he was graduating from the Junior Potomac River Bassmasters.
I asked Pap if I could join that club and he said I could in a couple of years. Finally I turned 7 years old and got to join the Junior Potomac River Bassmasters. Pap and I would go fishing almost every weekend then.
My first year in the club I placed fifth in the club’s point standings. The second year I placed second and the third year I was third. I have got to go to the Bassmaster Junior Championship for four years and last year my partner, Grayden Scibilia, and I placed 10th out of 62 teams. I can’t wait to go back this year.
I like fishing tournaments but I like it best when Pap, Dad, Uncle Zach and I go to Keystone Lake in Pennsylvania.
