High school fishing: Cayuga’s Royse, Currie make history

BULLARD — Cayuga High School’s fishing tandem of Sean Currie and Jagr Royse will forever be in the history books.

Currie and Royse are the first-ever duo in school history to qualify for the Texas High School Bass Association state meet set for Sam Rayburn Reservoir in May.

“I am beyond excited for them,” said Cayuga fishing team advisor Erika Goolsby. “They are both good, young men and great representation for Cayuga.”

Erika Goolsby’s husband, Shane, who served as the boat captain, echoed Erika’s sentiments.

“I think it’s great, and shows Cayuga fishing is here to stay,” Shane said. “It shows the growth in the program and it’s great for the school. It’s something different for the kids to be involved in.”

For Royse, high school fishing is the only sport he participates. Currie, on the other hand, also plays varsity basketball and he’s a member of both the Wildcat golf and track and field teams. He competed at the regional golf tournament in Corsicana on Monday and Tuesday….Full Story
