2013 Fishing & Outdoor Radio contest FRABILL’S Illinois High Schools Fish Here TEAM OF THE YEAR.

Team members taught young children the basics of fishing and casting at the Lake Katherine Nature Preserve Family Days event.

The team hosts the Oak Lawn Bass tournament, which has a date set for the last Saturday of each September.  Schools are allowed to enter as many boats as they can get on the water with up to four kids per boat roster.  This gives an opportunity for freshmen and sophomores or more novice anglers to take part in a bass tournament.  For many kids, this will be the only bass tournament they will ever fish in high school.  A shoreline creature tournament is also held for the kids who are waiting for their turn on the boat or are not on a boat.

Ultimate Spartan Angler challenge is held every year to help the kids on the team get through the cold winter months.  The kids compete in knot tying events (who can tie the knot correctly and fastest), casting (distance, accuracy, bozo buckets and side casting), and a written portion (fish identification, state rules and regulations, and fishing knowledge).

Other annual activities: Team members assist with the Helping Veterans Go Fishing event.  https://www.helpingveteransgofishing.org

Team members assist with the Fishin’ Buddies Fishing Derby at Wampum Lake.
