Headland Bass Team fishing for a national championship

HEADLAND, Ala. (WTVY) — A group of Headland students is hoping to reel in a national championship.

The bass fishing team will be headed to Lake Kentucky tomorrow for the tournament.

Eight anglers from Headland High School are getting ready to take on stiff competition.

The bass fishing team has qualified for the national championship.

”They’re all diverse. Some are better at shallow water fishing and others are better at deep water fishing, but they’re all pretty strong at all of them,” said Headland Bass Fishing Head Coach Hank Herbold.

The team is not unfamiliar with the spotlight.

“This team started five years ago. We’ve been to the national championship 3 times now with various different teams,” said Herbold

Aaron Cherry and Gracie Herbold will be seniors this year.
