The fishing industry is really huge and it has really changed over the last couple of years. There are so many new growing companies, it can be hard to keep up with all of the new products.

Having a good relationship with your sponsors is a huge part of the fishing industry and tournament fishing. I feel very blessed to have the relationships that I have with my sponsors. They give me a lot of support and I do my best to represent them to the fullest.

In today’s market, media is one way to represent your sponsors. Making videos, posting on social media and constantly staying up on the latest technology definitely puts you at an advantage.

Your sponsors expect more than just the social media representation; they love it if you can help out at tournaments and shows and really be hands-on in demonstrating the products. This year on Father’s Day I went to Bass Pro Shops and talked to people about the technology in a Livingston Lure.

I also love to give talks to students in school about the importance of goal setting and to share my passion for fishing. I feel blessed to have such a great group of sponsors around me now. I work for a company called BassingBob.com, an online bass fishing resource. They provide information on videos, tournaments, fishing reports and articles around the Lake of the Ozarks area just to name a few. Working for BassingBob.com has helped me understand the business side of fishing and what you need to do to be successful in this industry.

I also love to go to the Crock-O-Gator headquarters and help make baits. I am fortunate enough to have Lew’s sponsor me and I always try to be available to work their booth at local tournaments and any other chance I can get. I love to promote their product.

The more you do for your sponsors the better your relationship with that company will be. Just like in life the more you give the more you get. Nothing is free and you should not expect anyone to just offer you a sponsorship based only on your fishing abilities. You should bring more to the table and show your sponsor you are ready to help them and their company succeed.
