Bass fishing coming to LHS

LONE GROVE—Students at Lone Grove will have the opportunity to cast their hooks for more than just fish soon.
The Lone Grove Board of Education approved the addition of a Bass fishing team during their Nov. 14 regular meeting last week. Bass fishing, which has been picked up by other schools in the area, is an activity the school saw had the potential to interest a lot of students at Lone Grove.
“It’s an opportunity for our kids to participate in fishing and be competitive,” Chris Sudderth, Lone Grove High School principal, said. “It’s a really neat opportunity.”
Sudderth volunteered to spearhead the club when discussions first started. Sudderth said when they began testing the waters on the amount of interest in the club, several students were hooked. He said the group will also allow students who may not be athletes or in an already existing group to be involved in an activity.
“Fishing is very popular, especially in this area,” Sudderth said. “I know a large majority that like to fish.”
Sudderth said getting the program going is still in its early stages, with the group hoping to meet for the first time after Thanksgiving break. The high school principal fishes in his free time, a skill he said teaches patience, conservation and precision….Read More
