Marshall’s Marine in Lake City hosts bass class
LAKE CITY, S.C. – Marshall’s Marine in Lake City hosted nearly 22 high schools and middle schools Saturday for a bass class.
Justin Altman, a representative of Marshall’s Marine, said the company hosted the teams to give them an opportunity to learn more about fishing and fishing techniques.
Schools from all over South Carolina attended the event, including South Florence High School and East Clarendon High School, he said.
“It’s a free event we put on just for them, the parents and the grandparents,” Altman said.
Tony Gray, the Bassmaster national youth director for South Carolina, was one of the presenters. Several other state fishing professionals were also represented.
Gray said the bass class provided a chance for students who are already part of the High School Bass Challenge to learn techniques from some of the state’s professionals.
“Also, we had Matt Herren here who is a Skeeter Yamaha pro fishing on the bass elite, which is a top event of our program,” Gray said. “So he came in and spoke to the crowd.”
