Bass anglers team up for tournament at Hellenberg Park

The Bass Pro Shops Fishing League Worldwide held one of its competitions Saturday in Monroe.

Logan Complo and Evan Earnest marveled at their catch after spending a day out on Lake Erie. The 17-year-old juniors at Monroe High School were pleased with the five small and large-mouth bass they caught as part of the Bass Pro Shops Fishing League Worldwide tournament.

Teams from across Michigan competed in the tournament, which launched early Saturday morning from Hellenberg Park.

“It was slow at first but I think we got a few good ones,” Logan said.

For the tournament, teams of two anglers went out on bass boats hoping to catch the five largest fish. The teams were limited to five total fish and the ones with the highest weight one.

Logan and Evan didn’t win the tournament but had a good time. The pair is part of the Monroe High fishing club, which was created earlier this year. Monroe had five two-person teams.

In all, 37 teams participated in the tournament including the team of Rebecca Allsbrooks and Elaina Westrick. The girls will be freshman at Carlson High School in the fall. This was their first tournament.
