Parma Western bass fishing program growing into quite the catch
JACKSON, MI – Not even a waterspout could stop Wyatt Walker and Kaleb Krontz.
The Jackson-area residents battled through the wind, rain and even an occasional waterspout vortex during the Michigan High School Bass Fishing State Championship Tournament on Aug. 17-18 at Lake St. Clair and came away with lifelong memories and a state championship trophy.
As the founding members of the Western High School bass fishing team, Walker and Krontz closed out their second round of fishing that Sunday with an 18-pound bag to their name. That proved to be the winning margin, as they took home the Senior Elite Division championship.
“It was amazing,” said Walker. “We didn’t expect it. I actually thought we lost because I lost a bass toward the end of the tournament that probably would have been our biggest fish. I got it all the way up to the boat and lost it. I figured that was all she wrote at that point.
“We were down two pounds on the first day, but we brought in an 18-pound bag that second day and the second-place team only had a 12-pound bag. Just to be able to say you’re a state champion at anything is a big deal. When we found out we were going to be state champions, we just felt like we were on top of the world.”…Full Story and Photos
