Pro Bobby Lane hosting high school tournament

Bobby Lane Cup charity tournament coming soon

The eighth annual Bobby Lane High School Cup youth fishing tournament is Dec. 1, and the registration deadline is fast approaching.

The tournament, started by professional bass champion Bobby Lane of Lakeland to raise scholarship money for student anglers, will be held on the Kissimmee Chain out of Camp Mack, a Guy Harvey Resort. The registration fee is $40 per two-student team, and each team is allowed one captain or coach. The deadline to register is Nov. 10.

Tournament volunteer Dawn Holcomb said there were more than 300 competitors last year, and they expect more than 400 this year. Elite bass pro Mike Iaconelli, who has a TV show on Nat Geo the only angler to have won the Bassmaster Classic, Bassmaster Angler of the Year and B.A.S.S. Nation Championship, will be a special guest.

“More people are getting involved,” Lane said, “and it makes my day to see how everyone shows support for our youth.”

Breakfast starts at 5 a.m., with a launch at safe light. The youth division weigh in (ages 14 and younger) will be at 12:30 p.m. The high school division weigh in (grades 9 to 12) will take place at 2 p.m. There will be a raffle after the weigh-in, and TrophyCatch is offering a chance to win a boat….Full Story
