South Laurel’s Coots to continue fishing career at Campbellsville University

SOUTH LAUREL—Though winning a state fishing title is certainly worth bragging about, Shawn Coots has something else to brag about.

Coots, who captured first place at this year’s KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament along with his fishing partner Trent Keltner, recently signed his letter of intent to continue his education and fishing career at Campbellsville University.

Coots has been fishing since he was big enough to pick up a fishing pole and soon began fishing with his dad, Les Coots, in night fishing tournaments that his uncle hosted.

In the eighth grade, Coots decided to join the South Laurel Bass Fishing Team, where he’s finished in the top six every year and made a region appearance every year. Coots has also made state appearances four times, including this year where he took home South Laurel’s first state title.

“He’s a very competitive fisherman and he works hard,” said South Laurel Bass Fishing Coach Dennis Hammonds. “Every chance he gets he’s on the lake fishing.”…Full Story
