Southern Bass Slayers to compete in national championship
OAKLAND — The Southern Garrett Bass Slayers Fishing Team will be sending a team to The Bassmaster High School National Championship for the fifth year in a row.
Dalton Perando and Jeremiah Mellinger, along with Volunteer Boat Captain Hunter Louden, will be representing Maryland at the 2020 Mossy Oak Bassmaster National High School Championship on Kentucky Lake. The event kicks off on Monday with official registration, tournament briefing and welcome ceremony at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee.
The team will then spend the next two days (Aug. 6-7th) practicing for the tournament that takes place Aug. 8-10. The high school teams will take off from Paris Landing State Park at 6 a.m., and the weigh- in will take place each day at 2 p.m.
They will compete against hundreds of other high school teams from across the United States and Canada for the top 12 spots on the final day, Aug. 10.
Perando is a junior at Southern High School and has been a member of the Southern Garrett Bass Slayers for three years. His parents, Terri and Wolf Perando, will travel with him.
