Sports Commission Awards to honor top southwest Missouri high school athletes and teams June 11
The top 123 athletes from southwest Missouri high schools — along with 26 teams, including those in cheerleading, dance and marching band — soon will be honored in the Sports Commission Awards.
The event is a celebration of the past school year, and the remaining finalists were announced June 6, including the Girls Athlete of the Year and Boys Athlete of the Year. They are among 27 categories as part of the Sports Commission Awards, set for June 11 at the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center in Springfield. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m., with the ceremony to begin an hour later. Tables of eight are $350, while an individual ticket is $30.
There are 14 individuals and one team from Christian County among the finalists in the Sports Commission Awards. That includes Ozark’s Macey Putt, who is in the running for top volleyball player and Girls Athlete of the year. Ozark’s Jace Gorn is in the running for Boys Athlete of the Year. The Ozark tennis doubles team of Macy Abernathy and Madison Woods is up for the top honor in the girls tennis category. Nixa High School’s Crimson Corps is up for Best Marching Band.
