White Oak anglers hook state honors
WHITE OAK – Bass fishing has evolved from a weekend hobby to a highly competitive discipline. Thanks in large part to tremendous success of The Bassmaster Classic and the FLW Tour, popularity has exploded and transformed a leisure activity into a full-blown sport that’s made its way to the high school level.
The Texas High School Bass Association is growing at a rapid rate. The nonprofit organization was established, according to its Facebook page, to provide a venue where high school students have the opportunity to compete in organized tournaments while establishing strict guidelines and academic standards that will allow students to excel.
A group of young avid anglers from White Oak formed a 15-member unit and took 10 state qualifiers to the recently held 2016 THSBA State Championship on Toledo Bend. The team of Dylon Jones and Caden Cowser finished 10th out of 174 competing teams and earned $1000 scholarship in the process….Read More
